Detailed description of Jersey Meadow Golf Course

Jersey Meadow Golf Course, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Houston, Texas.

Jersey Meadow Golf Course first opened for play in 1958. The course was designed by Robert Simmons. This was the first course that he designed.

Jersey Meadow Golf Course sits on part of what was once a 1,236 acre ranch owned by Clark W. Henry. The ranch was originally home to the F & M Dairy and one of the world's largest and best herds of Jersey dairy cattle. In failing health Mr. Henry and Mr. Leroy Kennedy began a joint land venture that took the old ranch and laid the groundwork for what would become the City of Jersey Village. In the late 1950's a parcel of land was sold and earmarked as an employee only course for Cameron Iron Works. That course would become Jersey Meadow Golf Course.

In the late 1980's golf course architect Carlton Gipson redesigned the course and helped make it the outstanding test of golf it is today.

Now municipally owned by the City Of Jersey Village, in 2004 Jersey Meadow Golf Course underwent another face lift.

Jersey Meadow Golf Course is a beautiful course nestled among mature live oak groves. The course is a true test of golf, in the traditional sense. The Rio Grande (first nine) has many tree lined fairways and well placed water hazards. The Blanco (back nine) also make use of water hazards, and both courses have well placed sand bunkers. Water will come into play in twelve of the eighteen holes. Golfers will use every club in their bag when playing Jersey Meadow.

Par for the course is 71. From the back tees the course plays to 6,660 yards. From the foward tees the course plays to 5,151 yards and a par-72. The longest hole on the course is # 7, a par-5 that plays to 519 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 6, a par-3 that plays to 165 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 10, a 433 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Jersey Meadow Golf Course is # 7, the 519 yard par-5.

Good layout, good routing, good use of water hazards to make you think. Golfers at most levels will find this an enjoyable course with scoring opportunities. Seems a little more well-kept than your average city-owned course.

This course is in the best shape I have ever seen it. Greens are holding and putt true. Not too fast on stimp, either.
